Senior Technical & Product Support Specialist

Location: Johannesburg (with national travel as required)
Reports To: Directors

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically strong Senior Technical & Product Support Specialist to join our leadership team. This role requires a solid understanding of industrial flooring and construction site environments, as well as the ability to work hands-on with contractors, operators, and project teams. The successful candidate must be comfortable engaging directly on site, assisting with practical challenges, and providing real technical support where it matters most.

Unlike traditional sales roles, this position focuses on technical expertise, operational execution, strategic support, and new business development. The broader sales team will handle prospecting and cold calling—your responsibility is to step in for technical evaluations, solution design, client site support, product demonstrations, troubleshooting, and specialised project engagement.

You will also play a critical role in product innovation, working closely with the workshop and directors to improve existing equipment and support the development of new machinery, tools, and consumables.

This is a senior-level position suited for someone who is solutions-driven, hands-on, and confident working with equipment, clients, and leadership teams alike.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Expertise & On-Site Support

  • Provide advanced technical support, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for industrial flooring machinery and surface preparation equipment.
  • Conduct on-site assessments, product demonstrations, operator training, and technical presentations for clients.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and collaborate with the workshop team to implement effective repairs, upgrades, and product adjustments.
  • Advise clients on correct equipment selection, setup, usage, maintenance, and optimisation.

Operational & Project Support

  • Assist in planning and coordinating technical projects, equipment deployments, demonstrations, and trials.
  • Support operational teams with technical insights, equipment configurations, and readiness for customer engagements.
  • Provide technical input for machinery servicing, maintenance programs, and after-sales support processes.

New & Existing Business Development

  • Support the sales team with technical expertise required to convert new business leads (no cold calling required).
  • Engage with key and strategic clients to identify new business opportunities linked to technical or operational improvement.
  • Prepare solution-based proposals, technical recommendations, and equipment performance assessments.
  • Build and maintain strong long-term relationships with high-value clients, contractors, and industrial flooring specialists.

Product Innovation & Development

  • Identify gaps in the market and opportunities for new product development or enhancement.
  • Work closely with the directors and workshop teams to test, refine, and launch new machinery, tools, and consumables.
  • Provide technical feedback to guide product design, performance improvements, and quality standards.

Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate project, service, and product development documentation.
  • Provide sales forecasts, technical reports, and feedback to management.
  • Contribute to strategic planning around equipment portfolios, service offerings, and technical capabilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the industrial flooring, construction, or surface preparation industry.
  • Strong technical understanding of industrial flooring equipment, tooling, and construction site operations.
  • Experience in a technical support, field service, product specialist, or technical sales environment.
  • Strong commercial understanding with the ability to translate technical solutions into client value.
  • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality client communication, demonstrations, and operator training.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple technical projects simultaneously.
  • Willing to travel nationally and occasionally internationally.
  • Prepared to work after-hours or weekends when required for urgent client support.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
  • No criminal record.

What’s in it for You

  • Competitive, performance-based remuneration package.
  • Commission structure aligned to achievable, project-based targets.
  • Company car or car allowance, fuel card, cell phone allowance, and tablet.
  • Opportunity to influence product innovation and play a central role in shaping the technical direction of a respected industry leader.
  • High levels of autonomy, trust, and impact within a growing technical environment.
